From your mp3 collection to your digital photographs, the data stored on your PC is becoming more and more important.  It's critical that you back these files up; do you want to be the one that tells the family that all the holiday snaps have gone the way of a dead hard drive?

There are many ways to safeguard your data; the simplest way is to copy important files to CD or DVD.  Store these in a safe place and, if you remember to do it regularly, this should be an excellent, low cost solution.  An external hard drive will simplify the task though you may find yourself overwriting older backups.

If you need help remembering to perform backups, you can automate the process using the backup software that comes installed with Windows or a more sophisticated, but free, application like Cobian Backup.
