You've bought a new PC, got it home and out of the box; where now?

Whilst modern PCs are a lot more user-friendly than even just a few years ago, there is still an art to getting them set up correctly. Physically installing the system is usually pretty easy, but getting the right mix of software and hardware for the job it's going to do is crucial.

Check out our list of freeware to see some of the applications we recommend for a good setup and when you have things just right, consider taking a disk image, a snapshot of the system in its perfect state that you can restore back to if things go wrong.
